The Zakim

There are a lot of ugly things in the city, but not this bridge. The Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge is one of the largest cable stay suspension bridges in the world. At one point, it was part of the largest construction project in the world, the Big Dig, until the hotel in Dubai surpassed it. Today, it acts as the gateway into Boston from the North and is lovely at night.

Can it be a Bucket List if there is only one thing on it?

I love lists…but I have problems making a bucket list or a 101 things I’ll do next year or whatever. I always get distracted from completing the list. Maybe the 1st thing on it should be “Finish the list.”

Either way, I came up with something that I want to learn…the moon was gorgeous last night on my 60 degree (what? crazy) walk home from work. I stopped a few times to take photos and they all came out crappy. Kinda like this one:

I have a Canon TI3 Rebel, a telescope, and the desire…now I just need to sign up for a class since I think this is something that needs some hands-on instruction since I don’t know how to use said telescope and am still new to the camera after a year. Haven’t had a lot of time to take it out for a spin…and Santa might just have to bring a new lens 🙂

Paul Revere

Tomorrow is the actual Patriot’s Day here in Massachusetts, we just celebrate on the third Monday of April each year. However, tomorrow is also the first day of tours for us and I have the afternoon tour.

I have spent the last hour or so, looking over my notes and books from last year to refresh my memory and hoping that the jerk from Concord who interrupted my talk the other day does not have a cousin who will be walking with me for an hour.

I mean, really, do you think that the tourists care what famous people came from my hometown? I can only name 2 anyways, most of the rest were imported for the private high school and left soon after.

Paul Revere Gets His Horse

Anyways, I have printed up a copy of the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere…generally, you have someone on your tour who is about 58-65 who was made to memorize the poem as a younger child. The last paragraph makes a nice ending for our long walk together, though…

If you are in the area tomorrow night, the annual Lantern Ceremony is taking place at Old North Church. It is an interesting event to go to as you get to see the Church completely full, including a fife corps, and hear from a variety of people. There is also an event at the Charlestown Navy Yard after the ceremony.

After this weekend, work ramps up, school ramps up, my family situation ramps up, and parties galore are happening. Looks like I won’t get too much sleep till November.

The View from Eastie

Well, our little party was a success…only 1 car got lost and ended up by the airport. They were also the car that had a person slightly freak out when they went through the tunnels under the harbor and who asked every few minutes “Is that an airplane?!”

Too bad about the Patriots, though. The Jets suck.
